THE JOHN LLOYD-WILLIAMS MT ELIZA CRICKET ACADEMY

The Academy was established in 2022, after the passing of Mt Eliza Cricket Club Life Member, and 1st X1 team manager, John Lloyd-Williams. John’s sister Sue approached the club with the Academy concept, and in an act of extreme generosity, pledged to provide funding of $10,000 per year to the academy, for a period of 20 years. The Academy commenced providing cricket programs in 2023.

Pictured here is Sue Lloyd-Williams, with her brother John ‘Postie’ Lloyd-Williams celebrating his 70th birthday. Postie was a much loved member of the club, and whilst he will be dearly missed by all at the club, his name will live on through its ongoing association with the academy.

ACADEMY HEAD COACH APPOINTED

Sahan Wijeratne (Wiji) has been appointed as the John Lloyd-Williams Mt Eliza Cricket Academy Coach for season 2023/24. Wiji is the head of cricket at Elite Cricket Mentoring, is a Level 3 cricket coach, a Certificate 3 sports coach, and has obtained a certificate in sports psychology. As a young player in Sri Lanka he Captained the national Under 17 and under 19 teams.

Wiji loves working with young aspiring cricketers and has helped produce cricketers that have gone on to play County Cricket in England, Premier Cricket in Australia, and he also works with some current international players. Wiji brings an enormous amount of coaching knowledge and experience to our club and we look forward to watching our junior players further develop their skills and love of the game as a result of his coaching.

ACADEMY PROGRAMS

Whilst programs can be adapted to suit the needs of the club and the community at any given time, it is expected that all programs would closely fit the description of at least one of the program pillars.

PROMOTE & ATTRACT

Promote the sport of cricket to potential junior participants in our local area to help the club maximise its participation rate in male and female junior cricket.

EDUCATE & DEVELOP

Implement programs to increase the level of skill, knowledge and enjoyment amongst junior coaches and junior players, to generate a high level of ongoing player development.

CREATE PATHWAYS

Implement programs that create clear player pathways to Mt Eliza senior cricket and Premier Cricket.
